Day and overnight trips available.Snow Shoeing: Discover why this ancient means of transportation has sports enthusiasts raving. Trapline Excursion: After a fresh snowfall, track the prints left by an active timber wolf, cougar, marten, wolverine, elk, deer, or moose with a local game tracker. Learn about this traditional, historic means of survival. Photo opportunities abound as fall transitions into winter. Capture frost glistening on poplars as they shed their golden leaves. Or catch a glimpse of patchwork ice as it forms along a creek bank. See supple young branches of willows and poplar bending to the ground under their heavy burden of snow. Watch the southern sky catch fire as the winter sun turns the horizon brilliant orange. Weather conditions vary in the late fall and early winter--anything from a light dusting of snow to a wet, heavy accumulation is possible. Days are cool (0 C to 10 C). Quiet winter nights are brisk (-10 C to 0 C) with a good chance of seeing the Northern Lights and a glimmering panorama of stars. Between November 15 and April 5, enjoy brisk cross-country skiing along a backcountry trail. Special Weekends Turkey Feast. Family-style feast is prepared the old-fashioned way--in Grandma's wood stove. A roasted Alberta farm-fresh turkey is stuffed with Mediterranean walnuts, sweet sausage and a blend of home-dried herbs. Served on a table laden with all the fixings, including a tart sauce of wild mountain cranberries, fluffy mashed potatoes, glazed finger carrots, Indian butternut squash, and giblet gravy. A Valentines' Weekend. A bright fire blazes in the wood stove. Lightly scented candles add luster to the honey-colored logs in your cabin.. Sit before the picture window and gaze up at the Northern Lights as you sip champagne and listen amidst the winter quiet to your soul mate. |
