Ski Trip on Mountain Shadow Trail
Enjoy a 5 day, 4 night backcountry ski adventure in
the beautiful Alberta Rocky Mountains. Skiers will experience 30
km (15 km per day) of sub-alpine wilderness along an easy, track-set
trail. This package is a fully catered and supported tour.
ITINERARY
Day 1
Arrive at Black Cat Guest Ranch mid-afternoon for transportation
to Rocky Mountain Escape.
Settle in to your cabin and enjoy some backcountry cooking for
the evening meal.
Overnight accommodation at the 'Escape.
Day 2 -
Breakfast at Rocky Mountain Escape.
Strap on your cross-country skis and test out your ski legs on
an easy 7.5 km loop on the Munn
Creek trail.
Lunch at the 'Escape.
Afternoon option of skiing a different 5 km loop around Rock
Lake. Flat terrain and beautiful
scenery make this loop a wonderful afternoon activity.
Dinner and overnight accommodation at the 'Escape.
Day 3 -
Breakfast at the 'Escape.
Pack up personal belongings for transportation to West Range.
Ski 15 km to the West Range cabins. This part of the Mountain
Shadow Trail consists of a 5 km gradual climb from the north
trailhead
on the Wild Hay River, then easy downhill and flat terrain into
West Range. The trail is suitable for beginning to intermediate
skiers capable of skiing 15 km. Guests need only carry a day
pack, as the trip is fully guided and supported.
Along the trail enjoy a trail lunch at a scenic stop.
Dinner and overnight accommodation at West Range in the beautiful
Solomon Creek valley.
Evening options include star gazing, wolf howls, or catching
a display of Northern Lights.
Day 4 -
Breakfast at West Range.
Pack up personal belongings and continue skiing south 15 km (gentle
downhill and flat terrain) on the Mountain Shadow Trail to the
Black Cat Guest Ranch.
Trail lunch at a scenic stop along Solomon Creek.
Dinner and overnight accommodation at the Black Cat, with evening
options of enjoying the outdoor hot tub and game room.
Day 5 -
Breakfast at the Black Cat,
with leisurely departure before noon.
