Hiking

Your hosts and their helpers go hiking as often as possible, and guests are welcome to join us!  There are numerous trails right from the ‘Escape cabins or starting at nearby Rock Lake.  Trails range in difficulty from easy to quite challenging, and we do cater to guests’ desires and abilities.

Trail options are discussed regarding trail conditions and level of difficulty, and guests can let us know if there is anything in particular they would like to see (wildflowers, fossils, birds, wildlife and/or stunning scenery).  Day hikes can range from 2 to 8 hours in length.

Contemplation

NOTES:  Our wildlife here is just that – WILD.  Although we will see abundant evidence of wildlife presence (scat, tracks, markings) which your host can point out to you, it is not common to run into any animals face-to-face while we’re hiking.  We do like to take guests up to the Rock Lake Viewpoint around dusk for the best chance of viewing wildlife without disturbing them.

Our two most challenging hikes, the Avalanche Chute and the Hoff Ridge, are fair-weather hikes only.  Guests must wear or pack long pants and rain gear for these two hikes.

The ‘Escape can provide some rain gear, extra day packs and water bottles, along with insect repellent and sunscreen.
